Arai
A New Identity Design for a Historic Construction Company Dating Back to the 1894

We designed a new visual identity for Arai Construction, a company with roots in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido since the 18th century, that has been engaged in civil engineering projects related to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries for over about 130 years.

While thinking about how people working at construction sites can take more pride in their work than ever before, we aim to respond flexibly to the changing times and diversity of the future, rather than simply design as decoration. We aimed to develop a comprehensive design that is highly scalable and expressive.
Logotype

A logotype that expresses Arai Construction, which has accumulated a long history as a bridge connecting people and the city of Asahikawa. We created something that was neutral, yet would give us a sense of strength and trust as a construction company.
Logomark

The logomark embodies the essence of Arai Construction, intertwining the initial “A” for Arai and Asahikawa. Three lines compose the mark, each symbolizing “Arai Construction,” “Asahikawa City,” and “the city’s inhabitants.” A horizontally drawn line signifies the history and trust accrued by Arai Construction. Meanwhile, two intersecting vertical lines denote the future growth of Arai Construction, contributing to the city and its people. This emblem mirrors the company’s ethos – embracing diversity, flexibility, and a commitment to ongoing development.
The logo mark ‘A’ symbolizes the individuality of Every Arai Construction Employee.

Utilizing our logo kit, based on programming concepts, employees craft their distinctive original logo marks. By relinquishing control from designers, our aim was to cultivate a diverse and spontaneous design, reflecting each individual’s sentiments towards Arai Construction.
Envelopes

Rather than producing separate envelopes for each branch, we consolidated the list into one envelope. The design features a playful element where the sender can easily identify their branch location by tracing their own branch’s distinctive ‘A’ mark. This visual cue streamlines understanding and reduces production costs.
Various Outcomes

Arai Construction’s adaptable logos are crafted uniquely for each department, group, and employee, adding a playful personal touch. We propose enabling employees to create their personalized logos to establish their distinct identity. These designs will serve as communication tools on various items like business cards, helmets, and work attire. Furthermore, our focus is on raising awareness within the company and fostering pride in every employee to drive Arai Construction’s success. Externally, our goal is to showcase a company culture that values diversity and individuality. We have taken thorough consideration throughout the entire design process.
