Greeting 2026|Tokyo Gallery+BTAP
Translating the memory of light into typography.

The main visual features a work by Suh Seung-Won, one of the leading figures in Korean contemporary art. In the 1960s, Western Informel, often described as “hot abstraction,” became a dominant movement in Korea. Within this historical context, Suh pursued geometric abstraction, often referred to as “cool abstraction,” gradually establishing the memory of soft light filtering through hanji in the traditional hanok houses of his childhood as an essential element of his practice.
Inspired by the memory of light underlying the artwork, the typography of “26,” symbolizing the year 2026, was composed. The diffused and shifting qualities of light are articulated through the overlapping structure of the numerals themselves. Subtle variations of the artwork’s background tones were adopted, and transparent foil stamping was applied so that the surface responds delicately to changing light conditions, allowing the nuances of light to emerge more sensitively.
Print process

Test prints in five color variations to evaluate how the typography blends with the artwork’s color fields when transparent foil is applied.
Test prints to evaluate different foil intensities.
In the motion graphics, the softness of light filtering through hanji is echoed in the gentle glow of a Japanese andon lantern, expressing a quiet transition of light.
