A Visual Identity for a Gallery Highlighting the Next Generation of Young Artists
We developed the new visual identity (VI) for hide gallery, a contemporary art gallery jointly created by the art bookstore Book and Sons and the long-established Kawata Gallery. True to its name, hide offers a unique perspective in a space tucked away from the busy streets. We designed the logo, various stationery items, and other materials that reflect this atmosphere. The introduction of the new VI has resulted in increased recognition and a steady rise in visitor numbers.

A Logo That Integrates Two Perspectives
As a unique gallery that merges the perspectives of a bookstore and a contemporary art gallery, we fulfilled the client’s request for a youthful, modern atmosphere that emphasizes authenticity and trust while conveying freshness and energy. The design features a roman serif typeface for “hi” and an italic sans-serif typeface for “de,” creating layers of contrasting perspectives and resulting in a logo that feels both authentic and modern.

Stationery That Quietly Reflects Its Essence
As a gallery showcasing the works of young artists, the business cards project an image of lightness and forward motion. The logo is embossed on thick textured light gray paper, while the card details are subtly printed in a darker gray. The envelopes feature a color similar to the cards but use the same text colors, creating a design that is understated and elegant.

Subtle and Revealing Motion Design
As the name “hide” suggests, we designed movements reminiscent of playing hide-and-seek in an alleyway. Each character appears or disappears from different directions, creating dynamic vertical and horizontal motions. The software we developed allows for flexible adjustments to movement speed, timing, and intervals between transitions, enabling precise control over the motion design.
